Hey, Wahoo football fans, you’re going to like the look of the new scoreboard at Scott Stadium approved by the University of Virginia Board of Visitors Thursday. Installed in 2009, the scoreboard is outdated and requires frequent repairs. Parts are difficult to find. And it’s small — the second smallest football scoreboard in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The new display will be much bigger — it will be among the top three in the conference — and have superior graphics and a superior sound system. The $13.8 million display is expected to be functional by the end of the year.

$13.8 million for a sign? For football? What is the matter with you people? What have attendees been doing without this? We took binoculars to the game and listened to the referee; people now can just check it on their Iphones. Boy, let’s be sure UVA is competitive in replay signs among ACC teams. Where is a rolling eye emoji when you need one? Has the Jefferson Council succumbed to UVA spend-big-bucks-no-holds-barred fever? Elite educational institution privilege…..
Is the U going to buy a football team worthy of such a bodacious sign?
Should have been used to buy out Elliot’s contract.
Did we push Mendenhall out? He was at least a decent mediocre level, which I think is about the best we can aspire to without becoming GA or ALA.
James Madison 36 Virginia 35
I concur fully with Ms.Forad.
If the U buys a contract,it should be Ryan’s.
Let’s make it a two-fer!
This impressive scoreboard will preside over games played by a school that boasts a stellar historic winning percentage less than 50%. While there have been a few very memorable games – (Wm & Mary in ‘61; Maryland {“Bye, bye Gator Bowl” the same year}; 1995 v Michigan – the program has been mediocre overall. Perhaps the money buying the scoreboard would be better used for players’ NIL and coach’s salary. The outlook for all but a few major college football programs doesn’t seem to favour schools like the U.
But, it remains a dang good thing to hear (and sing) “The Good ‘Ole Song”. Wahoowa, ya’ll!
